2 Day's off. "Apparently"

So my schedule tells me that today and tomorrow are rest days. How nice of it. I am however going to ignore my superior (not for the first time) and do completely the opposite. I will be off along the same route again hoping to decrease my time.

I did knock 2 minutes off the run yesterday morning which was a positive but the run before I did run like an old woman with dementia who forgot why she had left the house in the first place! Ergo, a 2 minute reduction is no great achievement.

My calves have been tighter than a nuns proverbial the last two days so I am hoping come tomorrow morning they ease up a little bit. I hope it is just a case of them not knowing what the hell has hit them and not that they are trying to tell me that I am an idiot for even contemplating such a ridiculous challenge. (before anyone say's it, I know!)

I have found a site demonstrating some decent stretches using cartoon characters to show the moves, something tells me that if a little old lady walking her dog at 6 in the morning see's me doing an Iliotibial Band Stretch (me neither) or stretching my groin I may have to put my training to practical use ie running from the bobbys!

Well that's another entry down (2 more than I thought I would do) and as my wife has told me that now her friend is following me (I am glad by inability and pain amuses you) I have to carry on.

Day One, Week One, ish!

So now I have some donations I guess I'd better get my arse motivated and do it.

I signed up to a couple of websites to help with my training (or attempt at). One of them miraculously gave me a regime to work towards starting slowly and building up to a half marathon. Session one read "A steady ten minute run". I thought that's a little to easy let's go for 20. That was a bad idea as the day after (today) I feel like my legs are about 60 yrs older than the rest of my body.

The second website helps you plan your routes by basically dragging an icon around google maps and it adds up the distance so I planned a few routes which I thought were pretty long and gruelling, but google tells me otherwise (the bastard). for instance my "stage one" route in my head was a steady few miles. WRONG ! Google say's 1.6 miles, this was demoralising to say the least but then I though well, 8 and a bit of them and that's it cracked.

I have now decided that my level of fitness solely depends on what headphones I have when I am running therefore once I get my sennheiser neck strap headphones this will immediately solve the problems caused by 5 years of junk food and lager, oh yeah and sports mixture.

Well I don't know how long I will keep the blog going as I'm pretty sure I will quickly run out of stuff to say but hey ho check back in a couple of day's and see if anything exciting has happened or if my chest has collapsed from trying to inhale more oxygen than my body can handle at the top of gornies hill!

Oh yeah don't forget to sponsor me if you haven't already, and if you have then do it again you tight gits!

WHY!

Ok, so here is my attempt at this blogging thingy.

Well, For those of you who don't know me my name is Darren and I am the proud father of twin girls.

A Few weeks ago I had the sudden urge to do something for charity, suggestions were made from friends and this is the result. Some friends and me are going to attempt to climb the 3 highest mountans in Britain in under 24 hrs. That's Ben Nevis (4,409 ft), Scaffel Pike (3,209 ft) and Snowdon (3,560 ft).

That's not the end though, well not for me anyway. My wife, in her wisdon thought it would be good for me to do the Great North Run (half marathon) as well. So a mere two weeks later I'll be off again.

I am doing this to raise money and awareness for TAMBA, as a father of twins I know how scary the heightened risk of my wifes pregnancy was for me and in the end we were blessed with two healthy girls, but this unfortunately is not the case for everyone and just a small donation can help the people who need support in there time of need.
